NENIC Membership Spotlight

altSandra McPherson DNP, RN-BC, CPHIMS started her journey to CNIO of Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in Connecticut when she was offered the opportunity to build and update the supply inventory database for the new OR electronic health record at William W. Backus Hospital. Dr. McPherson found that she had a keen interest in this type of work. Soon after, she transitioned to a full time role in Informatics at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.  She then went on to participate in or lead at least 20 implementations in different care areas. She has experience with a number of vendors: McKesson Horizon Clinicals, Paragon, Meditech, Mosaiq, and Ibex.

As CNIO, Sandra is responsible for clinical content, workflow, redesign, meaningful use, and quality measures. She works closely with the Director IT and Director of Business Applications.

Included among her achievements and leadership roles, Dr. McPherson was the Chair of the ANCC Content Expert Panel for the Nurse Informatics certification exam and is now the Vice Chair. She also chairs the Healthcare Informatics Committee for the Connecticut Hospital Association, has managed the sponsor recruitment for the NENIC Annual Symposium for the last 4 years, was selected NENIC Distinguished Leader 2014, and was elected to the Member at Large position on the 2015 NENIC Board.

Why are you a member of NENIC and why is it important to you? NENIC is important because it brings awareness  of  nationwide trends in Informatics to our local area.  Networking opportunities are abundant with the NENIC members.  Members have diverse backgrounds and work history, it is great to hear others informatics journeys.
